Welcome to the Leggings

To What Lengths Will You Go?

Soooooo today marked the day I purchased my sixth pair of black leggings. Why so many? It’s not because 6 is my favorite number (even though it is) and it’s not because leggings are my “go-to” bottom option (even though they are). No, no, no-- it has more to do with length. That’s right ladies; all leggings are not created equal, even if they are all black. And believe me, they BETTER be all black (don’t even get me started).

So today’s pair stretch to my ankles and are primarily made of “the fabric of our lives” (that campaign is so catchy!) but don’t let this fool you. My ____ closet contains a plethora of ankle, shin, and knee-length cotton, polyester, and spandex leg-huggers.

In the name of full disclosure, today’s acquisition wasn’t ONLY driven by length. I suppose you could say it was more about…width. You see I never did have dainty, petite feet (a trait I’ve been told I inherited from Grandma). Well thanks to Grandma, my size-eight “boats” stretched out the bottoms of my favorite pair. The result? A cankle-like effect and as you might have imagined, this is not a good look on anyone.

Ankle-length Leggings

Since we’re on the topic of full length, it should be no surprise that these are best pulled off with a pair of sky-high heals for an ultimate siren effect. Pair it with a slouchy, boyfriend shirt (which covers the behind of course) to complete your look.

Shin-length Leggings

I’m tempted to say shin-length is the most flattering and the most wearable. Not sure how to wear them? A pair of gladiators and longer, baggy t-shirt is all you need. If you want to push the envelope a little more, wear them under pair of denim cutoffs for a modern, grunge look.

Knee-length Leggings

Cropped leggings are super cute. Wear them with a pair of closed-toe flats for a youthful, fresh look but if you’re not into the whole “sweet” look, no problem. Rock these bottoms with a pair of shin-high boots (so there is about 4 inches of skin between the top of your boots and the bottom of your leggings) for a badass, rocker look.
